The Convener of YesWeFit Revolutionary Movement and Former Presidential Aspirant, Thomas-Wilson Ikubese has described the review of the nations constitution by the National Assembly as a ruse and efforts in futility.

Ikubese in a statement made available to vanguard in Akure said that ” the on-going constitutional review is a ruse. It will get us nowhere, for we’ve travelled that route severally in the past, in futility. What we need is a brand new constitution!

“Let no one hide under the “law” or “the 1999 constitution”. The law is made for man and not otherwise. Where there’s a will, there’s a way.

“If we truly desire to see a nation we can be proud of, where no tribe will be clamoring for secession and citizens jet for option B, let’s not just go for a mere naming ceremony of changing from Federal Republic of Nigeria to United African Republic , let’s all come to the table and birth a new constitution that will make United African Republic our pride!

Speaking on the call for the United African Republic, he said “Why not? So long as it’s not another mere naming ceremony of a non-functional, unitary “contraption”

“Be it a Republic that recognizes the sovereignty of the various regions.

“Who’s afraid of “Biafra”? Let there be a Biafra Region, with a Prime Minister that oversees its affairs.

“Who’s afraid of “Oduduwa”? Let there be an Oduduwa Region, with a Prime Minister that oversees its affairs.

“Ditto for Niger-Delta, Middle Belt and the Core North. Each region with its Prime Minister.

” Each region controls its resources and pays tax to Abuja. Each region has its police, answerable to the Prime Minister. Each state has a police, answerable to the Governor.

*Each region generates its electricity and distributes accordingly without recourse to a “national grid”.

“The House of Representatives operates at the Regional Level, while the Senate operates in Abuja, each on part-time basis with their numbers greatly reduced, earning sitting allowances only in the scale of civil service.

“Each state and region publishes its income and expenditure monthly for all to see, while political office holders earn salaries in the scale of civil servants, devoid of bogus allowances in a single non-renewable term of six years, where cases of embezzlement of public funds by public officers are concluded within six months in a special court and a sentence of life imprisonment without an option of fine is passed on persons so found guilty.

“The office of the President, not by election, but on rotation amongst the Prime Ministers of the various regions.

Ikubese added that “So, the regions are powerful and determine the pace of their development, while the centre is less attractive.

The Federal Government had on Friday suspended Twitter indefinitely in Nigeria.

In a statement released on Twitter by the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, government attributed the suspension to what it called the persistent use of the platform for activities that are capable of undermining Nigeria’s corporate existence.

“The Minister said the Federal Government has also directed the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) to immediately commence the process of licensing all OTT and social media operations in Nigeria”, added Segun Adeyemi, the Special Assistant To The President (Media).

Twitter had come into the crosshairs of the Buhari government after its police deleted two tweets and a video, in which President Buhari threatened to invoke civil war treatment to arsonists, separatists and insurrectionists destroying public assets.

He spoke at a meeting with INEC officials who had complained of losing 42 properties to arson.

Buhari tweeted: “Many of those misbehaving today are too young to be aware of the destruction and loss of lives that occurred during the Nigerian Civil War.

“Those of us in the fields for 30 months, who went through the war, will treat them in the language they understand,’’ the president said.

Reacting to the ban, Soyinka, who said he just heard the news of Buhari’s ban of Twitter in Nigeria, expressed “surprise at this petulant gesture, unbecoming of a democratically elected president.”

According to Soyinka, “If Buhari has a problem with Twitter, he is advised to sort it out between them personally, the way Donald Trump did, not rope in the right to free expression of the Nigerian citizen as collateral damage.

“In any case, this is a technical problem Nigerians should be able to work their way around. The field of free expression remains wide open, free of any dictatorial spasms

Manchester United: Joel Glazer announces fan share scheme after meeting with supporters

https://resources.skysports.com/embed/amp/video/5405345#amp=1Manchester United chief operating officer Collette Roche believes Friday’s meeting between Joel Glazer and the club’s fans was productive and a ‘first step in resetting’ their relationship

Manchester United have set out their vision for the future in a fans’ forum meeting which will include the creation of a Fan Advisory Board and a Fan Share Scheme.

Joel Glazer, executive co-chairman, met with the club’s Fans’ Forum to begin discussions following months of supporter frustration with the direction in which the club was going.

It comes after Manchester United Supporters’ Trust (MUST) wrote an open letter to Glazer earlier this week, urging the club’s owners to engage in fan consultation.

The letter followed protests at Old Trafford last month over European Super League (ESL) proposals which United’s American owners were at the forefront of.

Making his first fan forum appearance in his 15 years of owning the club, Glazer outlined his intentions to not only invest heavily in all aspects of the club but to strengthen fan representation in the decision-making process.Advertisementhttps://3b7a0649db35bce6c4e421b754275070.safeframe.googlesyndication.com/safeframe/1-0-38/html/container.html?n=0

To this extent, a Fan Advisory Board to consult with the club’s senior leadership and owners would be created with this consisting of representatives from the Forum and key fan groups.

https://resources.skysports.com/embed/amp/video/5365070#amp=1Speaking last month, Sky Sports News’ Kaveh Solhekol explains the reasons behind many United fans’ opposition to the Glazers’ ownership of the club

The club will also initiate a direct dialogue with MUST with the aim of identifying a mutually beneficial Fan Share Scheme involving a new class of shares which will each carry the same voting rights as the shares owned by the Glazer family.

This would establish a foundation for supporters to build a meaningful ownership stake and create a new spirit of partnership with the club.

Following the meeting, Glazer said in a statement on United’s official website: “I was pleased to join the fans’ forum to listen to the views of supporters, address their questions, and share ideas on how we can improve the way we work together.

“As owners, we want exactly the same thing as the fans – a successful team and a strong club – and we want to work in partnership to achieve those objectives.

“Fans are the lifeblood of Manchester United and I am personally committed to ensuring that they are given an enhanced voice, through the creation of a Fan Advisory Board and a Fan Share Scheme.

“The club has been in discussions with MUST regarding a fan share scheme for a number of months and has already sought external legal advice on options. Discussions will now intensify, with the aim of agreeing a plan before the start of the new season.”

Glazer also defended the club’s ‘sustainable’ business model over the last decade at the meeting, claiming that the commercial growth of the club had helped delivered the required revenue to be successful on the pitch as well as keeping ticket prices ‘affordable for all fans’

However, he went on to concede that further investment in the squad, scouting network, stadium and training ground would have to be found over the coming few years.

On the proposals, Glazer said: “We will continue to invest in our academy and in the transfer market to support the manager in an effort to meet the club’s goals.

“As a club we have devoted a lot of time and resources over the last several years updating and further developing our vast global scouting network to adapt to the modern football environment. This is a project that should provide a foundation for long-term success in the years to come.

“In addition, as you all know, we have also been focused on growing and developing our women’s team in line with the traditions and values of the club, and we are committed to continuing that process.

“Old Trafford is at the heart of Manchester United and while we have spent over £100m over the last 10 years on infrastructure projects, we will now accelerate the process of planning much more significant investment and upgrades to the stadium.

“Rest assured, we will consult with supporters throughout the process to end up with a result we can all be proud of.”

MUST urges global fanbase to ‘Sign for United’

A statement from MUST said there had been a “frank exchange of views” in Friday’s meeting and that Glazer had been “held to account on a series of issues including debt, dividend payments, tickets prices, lack of investment in the stadium and lack of engagement with supporters for 16 years”.

It described the share scheme as “potentially revolutionary”, and said: “MUST is cautious about whether this Fan Share Scheme will meet their own tests before they give it approval as despite the huge concession on voting rights that this proposal signals as ever the devil is always in the detail.

“In particular, despite Joel Glazer’s assertion that this will be ‘the largest fan ownership group in world sport’, MUST is concerned that there is a risk that the scheme will limit the number of such fan shares made available so reducing the opportunity for this to achieve a meaningful collective fan ownership stake – and ultimately with the potential to result in a change in control of the club.

“For that reason – MUST is today signalling their intention to recruit the millions of members of Manchester United’s huge global fanbase to unite behind their campaign and sign up to their pre-launch “Sign For United” campaign site so they can be part of the campaign when it launches in the next 10 days.

“The aim of the campaign is to demonstrate the huge appetite amongst United support for a better model of ownership which embraces the fans at its heart and in so doing compel the club to deliver a really revolutionary Fan Share Scheme which will both excite the fans and also exceed their demand for shares.”

Image:Manchester United Supporters’ Trust (MUST) has urged fans around the globe to join the group ahead of the club’s Fan Share Scheme launch

It is hoped Friday’s meeting will go some way to alleviating some of the long-standing anger among United supporters towards the Glazer family .

That reached a new level when the club and their fellow ‘big six’ Premier League rivals agreed to join the ESL – something they then pulled out of amid intense pressure.

Anti-Glazer protests on May 2 then led to the home match against Liverpool being postponed.

Manchester United Supporters’ Trust chair Ian Stirling said there was ‘a lot of apologies’ from Glazer over the lack of communication with fans since the family’s takeover at the meeting.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, Ian Stirling added: “It’s not going to prepare the damage that has been done, there is still a lot of hurt and bad feeling but we hope the proposals that have come through today will go some way to change the relationship between supporters and the club.”Win £250,000 with Super 6!Keep an eye out for our return during Euro 2021. Thomas Tuchel, Thiago Silva and Olivier Giroud sign Chelsea contract extensions as Blues celebrate Champions League glory, new deal for N’Golo Kante expected to follow

TalksportJun 4, 2021Read originalThomas Tuchel, Thiago Silva and Olivier Giroud have all signed a contract extensions with Chelsea.

The club’s head coach is now committed to the Blues until June 2024, while 36-year-old veteran Silva will remain at Stamford Bridge through to the end of next season.

Chelsea also confirmed Giroud’s contract, due to expire this summer, was extended by a year back in April.

Although it remains to be seen whether the 34-year-old stays this summer, having been used sparingly by Tuchel and with links to AC Milan.

The Blues have rewarded their manager by adding a further two years to his deal in the wake of their Champions League triumph and top-four finish in the Premier League.

Silva, meanwhile, proved to be a fantastic addition to the squad, starting most games and hardly putting a foot wrong since arriving from Paris Saint-Germain last summer for free.

Tuchel said: “I cannot imagine a better occasion for a contract renewal. I am grateful for the experience and very happy to stay part of the Chelsea family.

“There is far more to come and we are looking forward to our next steps with ambition and much anticipation.”

The 47-year-old German arrived at Stamford Bridge in January, inheriting a Chelsea side who were ninth in the table when previous boss Frank Lampard was sacked.

Tuchel oversaw a rapid improvement in results, ensuring Champions League qualification for the Blues and then winning European football’s biggest prize itself by beating Manchester City 1-0 in Porto last Saturday.

The Blues also reached the FA Cup final, but were beaten 1-0 by Leicester at Wembley.

Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia said: “When Thomas joined us in January there was still so much to play for domestically and in Europe. He slotted in seamlessly and immediately became an integral part of the Chelsea family.

“Returning us to the top four in the Premier League was crucial, and we could not be happier with our success in the Champions League which crowned a remarkable season at Chelsea.

“We are obviously extremely pleased therefore to retain Thomas for a further two years, and look forward to more achievements in the coming seasons.”

On Silva’s contract extension, she added: “When we brought Silva in last summer, we knew we were adding a world-class player to the squad. Thiago has duly shown everyone at Chelsea his immense quality throughout this season, and he has had a huge influence on and off the pitch for us.

On Giroud’s new deal, Granovskaia said: “Olivier has been such a crucial part of so many big moments for this club, from his contribution to our FA Cup victory in 2018 to scoring 11 goals on the way to winning the Europa League in 2019. He has continued to score significant goals, and we will never forget his effort against Atletico Madrid on the way to winning the Champions League this season.

‘With so much to still to play for, there was only one decision we could make when we exercised the option to extend his contract back in April.’

“We said when he signed that we hoped Thiago would add new trophies to his impressive list of honours, and he has done just that with our success in the Champions League this weekend. We now hope that he carries on in exactly the same fashion in the coming year.”

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the Blues will also begin talks over extending N’Golo Kante’s deal, currently set to expire in June 2023.

Meanwhile, Blues defender Fikayo Tomori is expected to join AC Milan on a permanent basis after spending the second-half of the 2020/21 campaign on loan at the San Siro.
